I don’t have a baby yet (4 more months!) but I would think that as long as your baby is hydrated and protected from the sun a short trip outside would be ok. I live in the phoenix are and I have seen the neighbor out with her child (about 15 months) in the mornings while it is ‘cool’. They walk out in the grass and sometimes sit in the shade of the tree near my patio. A plastic splash pool would be a treat on hot days and would use up a little energy. Plus if your baby is young enough that you would have to hold her in the pool you would have an excusse to take a dip and cool off too. Hang in there with the heat (only 3 more months of it!)
your baby will be fine even if it is hot as long as you dress them lightly and keep them in the shade! take plenty of fluids with you as babies can dehydrate quickly! a little cooled boiled water for under 6 months!
Depends on how old baby is, really. I lived in 29 Palms CA with our oldest daughter when she was a newborn. I didn’t bring her for walks outside unless it was in the 70’s at night. She was breastfed on demand, so I knew she was always hydrated (less wet diapers would be a signal). I never had her in the sun. She was too little for sunscreen and sun exposure for babies and kids is just dangerous. It’s one thing if they have jaundice and you’re giving them a little sun, but to just take a baby for a walk or to play between 10 am and 3 pm isn’t good.
I wouldn’t take a 2 yr old out in temps of 115 – so I would have to say, it’s not a good idea for a baby. In and out of the car or A/C is fine, but that’s it! If baby is over 6 mos, you can use sunscreen (SPF 50 or higher) and go to a pool or use a baby pool outside.
